RHEV Manager Session Time

This post is also available in: Türkçe

Environment Systems :

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.X (RHEV 3.x)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 4.X (RHV 4.x)

Issue :

  • After about an hour of idle time in RHEV-M, users get logged off with a “session time-out” message. Can this be disabled? If not, can it be extended?

Resolution :

  • This can be done by modifying the UserSessionTimeOutInterval configuration option of the RHEV manager (RHEV-M).
  • Get the current setting of the UserSessionTimeoutInterval parameter using the following command:
- For RHEV 3.0/3.1/3.2:

# rhevm-config -g UserSessionTimeOutInterval
UserSessionTimeOutInterval: 30 version: general

- For RHEV 3.3 and above :

# engine-config -a | grep -i session
UserSessionTimeOutInterval: 30 version: general
  • Disable the UserSessionTimeoutInterval using the rhevm-config or engine-config command on the RHEV-M:
- For RHEV 3.0/3.1/3.2:

# rhevm-config -s UserSessionTimeOutInterval=-1

- For RHEV 3.3 and above :

# engine-config -s UserSessionTimeOutInterval=-1
  • After modifying the value restart the jbossas or ovirt-engine service:
- For RHEV 3.0/3.1/3.2:

# service jbossas restart

- For RHEV 3.3 and above :

# service ovirt-engine restart

NOTE: setting ‘-1’ will disable the timeout permanently and the session will always be active, If one wants a specific integer, please set an integer value other than -1 or 0 (zero)
